I started this blog when my nephew, Erik, was born prematurely in 2008. This blog is mostly about him. This year, Erik's little brother, Hunter, joined our family, but he only got to stay for a short while. So, I have added my rememberances of him.

No more nasal canula's!!
On Friday night at 10 p.m. Erik was taken off the nasal canula (the oxygen). As of this morning he is still breathing room air completely on his own. The doctors ran some tests to see if he has acid reflux, but I do not know the results of those tests yet. He is so close to coming home. He belongs with his family now.

Almost 4 lbs!
Erik is almost 4 lbs. As of Saturday, his weight was 3 lbs. 15.2 oz. He is a little over 14 inches long now too. His feeding tube was taken out again shortly after they had put it back in. He is doing amazingly. The nurse was trying to give him his medicine in a bottle on Saturday and he kept choking on it. So, I gave it a try and he drank almost all of it without any problems. The nurse seemed impressed. I guess I wasn't trying to rush him. After he took his medicine, he snuggled up with me and fell asleep. He is so sweet and adorable. I love you Erik!

Feeding tube again!
Well, Erik was doing so well drinking from the bottle, we had hopes he would come home soon. However, he is being lazy again and he was put back on the feeding tube. He weighs 3 lbs. 11.4 oz. so his weight is still good. My brother and his wife were informed that he would be in the hospital for at least 3-4 more weeks, which was a dissappointment. I am glad that he will be healthy when he comes home though. I want nothing but the best for Erik. But the fact that he won't come home until he is over 3 months old is tough. That's a long time in the hospital. But, things are the way they are for a reason. He is safe where he is. I will just keep praying that he grows strong soon. Thanks for reading his blog.

No more feeding tube!
Erik is doing great!! He is 3 lbs. 9 oz. and he doesn't have his feeding tube in anymore! He is growing so fast. The nurse thinks he might be able to go home in about 2 weeks or so. I hope that is true. We have been waiting so long to be able to just hold him and love him without a nurse hanging out with us telling us what we can and can't do. (I know they are just looking out for Erik's best interest). We will miss some of the nurses, especially his primary care nurse, Jackie. Well, that's all for now. I will post pictures later.

3 lbs!!!
Erik is 3 lbs. 1 oz. today. Now that he weighs 3 lbs. his nurse feels comfortable putting him in an open bed. So, now he is out of the incubator and he is in his "big boy" bed. I look forward to seeing him again tomorrow. I can't get enough of him, he is so cute and precious and such an amazing miracle!
