Strep pnemonia!

The test results are finally in! Erik has strep pnemonia, which I have never heard of before. They also haven't completely ruled out the meningitis, but we are hoping that he doesn't have that on top of the pnemonia. He kept kicking his IV out so they put the IV in his head:0( Poor little guy has been through so much and we just got him home less than two months ago and on a schedule, and now he has to be back in the hospital being poked and prodded. We are praying for him though and I know that with God's help, he can pull through. We know he is a fighter.

I am an Aunt of 8yr. old Samantha. She to was recently diagnosed with strep pnemonia. Like yourself I to had never heard of it. She started with a common cold and had a fever. Easter Sun. she started to complain about pain in her back and right side of her abdomen, with vomiting and diarreah. She started to breathe funny so her parents took her to the ER. Thinking it may be her appendix, it clearly was'nt. The ran more test and come Monday afternoon her breathing got more difficult and her kidneys were not working right. She was flown out to Valley Childrens. 45 min went by and her lung had filled up 3/4 of the way and they had to perform emergency surgery and drained 1 ltr. of blood and puss. They left the tube attched where it continued to drain and her fevers were up to 105'. her lung then collasped and it kept filling up with more fluid. The Doctors did more blood work cause they thought she may have valley fever or a staph infection. At this point we were all pretty devistated. We began prayer chains and asking everyone to keep her in prayer. Her fevers were still high and she was surrounded by ice bags in her bed. The antibiotics were not enough so , they gave her Tylenol. they began to run more test and x-rays, she was diagnosed with strep pnemonia. they talked about a possible lung bi-pass. As the week went on. her kidneys were better and they began to remove her breathing tube. She started to eat lite and looked so much better. Her lung was draining more slowly so they talked about surgery to remove the fluid from her lung and all the glory to God, she was clear from the fluid. they had ran a ct scan and found no fluid. She has some tissue damage, but overall, she is doing spectacular. She will be returning home on Tuesday, Lord willing, but will need to be under strict rules. My point is, that you not give up your faith, continue to pray and stay strong. I will be praying for baby Erik and all your family. Keep smiling and I hope that he will recover soon and I look foward o hearing from you to know how he is doing. My e-mail is sandreortega@att.net....may God Bless you and Baby Erik..Stay strong....
